Top flight Mid Lothian outfit arrived at Murrayfield Park confident of progressing to the last 32 of the Scottish Junior Cup at our expense but reckoned without the desire of the starting eleven and five substitutes Woodsie selected to face the men from Victoria Park.

After a few skirmishes in the United box it was Mark CAMPBELL who opened the scoring in front of a healthy crowd when he knocked home an inviting cross from six yards out with the visiting 'keeper rooted to the spot. However, only eight minutes later Star underlined their status as one of the favourites to go on and win the competition itself when Tony OHARA fired home unmarked from just inside the eighteen yard box.

After Campbell came close to re-establishing the Blackburn lead with a second strike it was an unexpected scorer who did eventually put United 2-1 ahead. From a piercing through ball, left-back Robert KENNEDY sprang the offside trap to race clear into the box and draw McQueen from his line before cooly slipping his shot beneath the sprawling goalkeeper and into the net.

Despite some concerted  pressure from the visitors in the closing half hour and no fewer than seven additional second half minutes being added on by an over fussy referee, Blackburn held out comfortably to find themselves in the hat for the fourth round draw.
