Blackburn United 0

Blackburn were the first competitive visitors to West Calder's new Hermand Park ground set on the outskirts of the town and started this league cup tie the livelier side, Lee Docherty flashing a dipping volley from twenty yards just past the left hand upright before Peter Lynch broke free on the right to spear in a cross that David Fowler threw himself at to send a diving header towards the bottom corner that Greig in the home goal had to stretch every sinew to get to. However, a loose clearance on the twenty minute mark allowed Cauther's Paris to take a touch and set himself up with a sight of Michael Tugman's goal but his drive from the edge of the area flew wide. Five minutes later, though, the home side showed a much more clinical side to their game to take advantage of an uncharacteristic slip from Ian Graham, the Aussie completey missing his kick as Johnston's cross arrived in the box to allow QUINN all the time in the world to lash his shot low into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Shortly afterwards Blackburn almost forced a way back into the match but Lynch couldn't engineer a shot on goal from Jordan Rintoul's right wing delivery and when the ball broke across the area to Graham and he played it back into the path of Docherty his snap shot flew narrowly past. West Calder were soon pressing again however, and although Fowler did well to force Reid wide he couldn't quite prevent the ball being slipped to Quinn who hit an early shot that Tugman had to push past for a corner-kick. Bodel then sent a terrific curling effort from the right of the area just beyond the far post as the home side finished the half much the stronger.

West Calder remained the dominant side as the game got underway at the start of the second half and Reid had a pop from distance that drifted past before Blackburn put together perhaps their first really fluid move, Alan Brown playing a perfectly weighted pass inside Mitchell for Lynch to race onto and around McLellan's dreadful, lunging tackle to hit the bye-line but from his cut-back Fraser Gillespie was denied a clear shot at goal by Bodel's presence. However, Cauther were two ahead  not long afterwards when Reid beat the offside trap to scamper clear on the right and pull a ball back across the face of goal that Davie Sneddon bundled into his own net in a desperate attempt to prevent Quinn from doing so. Sixty seconds later the game was effectively put to bed when Blackburn got themselves into an awful mix-up from one of their own throws to allow QUINN to burst clear and smack a thunderous drive behind Tugman from just inside the eighteen yard box. West Calder substitute Seaton then hit the bar with a ferocious effort going into the final ten minutes before Blackburn tried to rally and struck the bar themselves, Brown curling the ball onto the woodwork from the edge of the area after Lynch had picked him out from a free-kick.
