Fife & Lothian's Cup Second Round
Saturday 8th October 2016
Blackburn United 3
McQuillan 42mins & 72mins, Calvey 71mins
Rosyth 0

After slipping to their only defeat of the season so far at Rosyth just two weeks ago United were out for a modicum of revenge in this Fife & Lothian's Cup tie but it wasn't until midway through the first half that a clear opportunity was created at either end, Gordon Wilson sliding in Andy McQuillan on the left and the striker hit a cracking, first time effort on the run that crashed against Rowbotham's crossbar with the 'keeper well beaten. Moments later Wilson dispossessed Duffy and tried to set up McQuillan again but the pass was just too heavy. Rosyth, too, came close when Ogg's cross from the right found Duffy's head but Gavin King mananged to claim the ball at the second attempt. Three minutes from the break McQUILLAN found it to be third time lucky with goal attempts when  he lashed home a first time, back post effort from Fraser Cormack's tempting, right wing delivery to open the scoring. Sixty second later McQuillan then set up Aaron Gowans for a twenty yard chip on the run that just cleared Rowbotham's bar.

McQuillan struck the bar for a second time seven minutes into the second half when getting onto the end of a move involving Scott Mackie and Cormack before Ogg created another Rosyth chance, Russell making space eighteen yards out to take his pass and hit a shot that King saved. However, little more than five minutes later Blackburn moved two ahead when McQuillan turned creator, racing clear on the left and onto a Wilson pass before drawing Rowbotham and squaring for substitute Gary CALVEY to clip the ball into the waiting net. No more than a minute more had passed when United duly eased three ahead when Gowans found McQUILLAN driving into the box on the right and just when it seemed that he might have over run it, he turned on the byeline to improve his shooting angle and fired home. It was then almost four not long thereafter when McQuillan showed impressive chest control before lifiting a pass over Foster for the arriving Calvey but his first time effort crept past. Three minutes from time the visitors might have sneaked a consolation but after turning into a bit of space Duffy lifted his twenty yarder too high.
