fully twenty two yards out on an angle clipped the top of the crossbar on its way over. Rosyth, though, finished the half on the attack and McDiarmid's speculative hitch kick from another Lawson free-kick sneaked past the left hand upright.

A long Ross Williamson forward in the early moments of the second period drew a mistake from Robertson that allowed Macarthur in on the right but he dragged his shot across the face of goal and past. Macarthur then headed a Gowans cross over the bar before James Mildren had to be perfect in his timing to deny Healy an opportunity at the other end. However, after conceding a cheap corner CHALMERS was again left with too much freedom when the delivery reached the back post and he again powered a header past Mitchell. With United then moving to a back three to try and force their way back into a game now running away from them they were caught on the break and Page might have done better with a shot from ten yards which screwed wide of the left hand post. Substitute Craig Young's corner with twenty minutes remaining allowed Ewan Herriot a header that was cleared off the line by O'Connor but that was as close as blackburn came, although McQuillan was unlucky to see a header from Campbell's cross go too high. In the final minutes captain Martin Lawrie, booked a little earlier, saw a second yellow card for a mistimed tackle on the touchline leaving his side to battle out added on time with just nine men after Campbell had hobbled off earlier with all three substitutions already made.

Barely two minutes had gone at a windswept and rainy Recreation Park when the hosts moved ahead, a corner from the right making it all the way to the back post where CHALMERS rose all but unmarked to head powerfully past Darren Mitchell. Nine minutes later Scott Woodhouse, making his second appearance in the heart of the United defence, slipped a past to Dean Macarthur, back in the starting XI after injury, who cleverly laid it off to Andy McQuillan and he danced past two Rosyth defenders before firing in a shot that Rowbotham managed to save. Scott Mackie then slid in Aaron Gowans on the right and his cross was won in the air by McQuillan under pressure from Rowbotham but the ball dropped kindly for McCulloch to clear. At the other end Lawson's free-kick was chshioned back into Healy's path by Duffy but his shot deflected over the top. Sixty seconds later Danny Campbell and McQuillan linked well but Campbell's finishing shot from
