who nipped in to take the ball before tumbling to the ground under Lawrie's recovery tackle. However, the referee deemed the tackle a good one and booked Elder for diving. With ten minutes remaining until the interval United doubled their lead and it was McQUILLAN who was again on hand to finish off a flowing move, firing into the bottom right hand corner from the corner of the six yard box after Danny Campbell had tricked his way to the bye-line to set him up. The visitors, though, found a lifeline before the interval was reached, Rennie delivering a ball into the box that was struck goalwards a couple of times in what was a bit of a stramash before it fell kindly for GIBSON to thump past Gavin King.

Mildren was brave to block a Rennie shot soon after the resumption before a deep Young corner at the other end found McQuillan at the back post but his header struck the outside of the upright on its way past. Lochgelly too swung in a deep delivery that saw King reach to gather before being bundled into the net alongside the ball by an Elder challenge that was penalised by referee Mr. Newman. Ewan Herriot then sent Campbell in on the right and his turn and hit from around sixteen yards forced Wilson into a diving save before Lawrie had to head clear a Jack Wilson cross as the Berts hit back. An equalising goal, though, arrived soon thereafter, Lawrie again doing well under pressure to clear, this time from on the goal line, before the ball rolled perfectly into the path of GIBSON once more and he took full advantage with a glorious strike that exploded high past King. With both sides going all out for the winner both Campbell and McQuillan had efforts for Blackburn that didn't unduly trouble Wilson and the last of the goalmouth action was played out in the United box, Jack Wilson getting in behind Herriot to pull a ball back for Paterson who hit his effort over the crossbar to ensure honours were even after four minutes of added time.

Lochgelly arrived with one of the divisions three unbeaten records and looking to put a dent in United's 100% start to the league campaign but, like every side before them so far this season, they succumbed to an Andy McQUILLAN goal early in the game, the Blackburn striker heading Aaron Gowans cross powerfully behind the flailing Wilson after the youngster had been put in down the right by a quickly taken Craig Young free-kick. Another Young set piece almost brought a second United goal but James Mildren's header from his corner kick flew just too high. The visitors weren't redundant at this juncture though and when Rennie's twenty yard free kick rattled the right hand post Gibson was unlucky to see his follow up hit the bar on its way over. Just ahead of the half hour mark Lochgelly made loud penalty appeals when Martin Lawrie's  control on a Grierson cross was read by Elder
