the interval Andy McQuillan skipped across the eighteen yard area from right to left before angling an effort on goal that Walker fumbled and when Swan was onto it in a flash he was sent tumbling to the ground by a cumbersome Josh Lawrie challenge, but the loud penalty appeals were waved away by referee Mr. Lindsay.

The resumption of hostilities after the break saw Blackburn steadily gain more control of proceedings but the Paties Road men were still a threat and a perfectly timed John Drummond challenge was required before the hour mark to prevent Hendry from getting in a shot from around the penalty spot and then Auriemma had a pop that slipped past the left hand upright. Substitute Danny Campbell picked out Swan with a pass that the little front man switched from left to right to find Chris Marshall bearing down on goal but his shot was saved by Walker and then McQuillan found Ross Williamson who delivered a cross that Spence got his head to but could only direct over the top as Blackburn ratcheted up the pressure. Going into the final minute, Craig Easton took control of a ball in midfield to turn neatly and roll a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Campbell who burst past Josh Lawrie and onto the ball before calmly rounding the outrushing Walker and sliding his shot into the waiting net. However, quite inexplicably and to the astonishment of probably just about everyone in attendance, players on both sides included, the referee, from some thirty or so yards behind the play, came up with a late whistle to rule the goal out for offside and ensure that the scoreline remained blank and that the points were shared.

In a game of few chances and in heavy, energy sapping conditions the hosts were able to nullify much of Blackburn’s attacking intent to make life extremely difficult for the league leaders. Indeed, it was the capital side who came close early on when Hendry’s corner from the left caused a fair bit of havoc in and around the six yard box and Gavin King had to be alert to block a scuffed effort from Auriemma that might have sneaked in. At the other end, Martin Lawrie sent Fraser Cormack clear down the left but when his cross arrived in the middle Fraser Spence could only head narrowly past. King was in action again shortly thereafter to touch a curling effort from Fleming around his right hand post. Spence then came close once more, taking a David Swan pass and steadying himself before thumping in a shot from fourteen yards that  Walker  in  the  home goal  saved.  Two  minutes   from
