flag kick. Two minutes  later  Dunbar's task  seemed all the more daunting when Steven Tait went down theatrically under a Ewan Herriot challenge and was booked for simulation, resulting in a subsequent red card following a booking for dissent earlier. Right on forty five minutes Dunbar's King thumped a free-kick into the defensive wall.

Despite a man advantage, Blackburn struggled to retain possession of the ball the way they successfully had in the opening period and it was the Seasiders who went looking for goals, substitute Sam Young putting Ballantyne through on the right in the fiftieth minute for a shot that flew wide. Moments later, McQuillan had to be replaced by Gary Calvey to protect an ankle problem the striker had been nursing for a few weeks but it was the visitors who had another effort, although Handling's shot from Wesley Mitchell's knock down was way too high. Midway through the half, loud penalty claims that lead to Ross Williamson being booked for being a little too vociferous were made when Wesley Mitchell barged Calvey in the back inside the area but referee Mr. Rennie was nonplussed. Eleven minutes from time Handling cut in from the left to hit a shot that was blocked out to Kean but his first time effort flew well over. Having been marshalled brilliantly by John Drummond the Blackburn defence gave up no more opportunities and with Darren Mitchell not really having to pull off any real saves it was Johnstone in the opposite goal who was eventually tested, substitute Darren Fleming's angled shot being pushed away as the game ended with Blackburn retaining pole position in the chase for promotion.

Blackburn indulged in a change of shape and personnel to welcome the arrival of the Seasiders who boasted the only remaining undefeated record in the league ahead of kick-off and it was a cagey opening quarter of an hour that preceeded the games first moment of note when Fraser Spence clipped in a deep cross from the right that Kean did well to head clear under severe pressure. Eleven minutes later the visitors also produced a delivery from wide on the right but when Ballantyne's cross arrived in the box James Mildren was either confident or fortunate to head it carefully back into Darren Mitchell's waiting hands. Five minutes from the interval the deadlock in this tense affair was eventually broken when the prolific Andy McQUILLAN headed home a Craig Young corner from amongst a ruck of players for his seventeenth league goal of the season after  he himself  had  worked  hard  to  win the
