Signed as a raw nineteen year old from Airdrieonians in October 1998 by then manager Jim Woods, captain Craig Spence began his Testimonial year at Murrayfield Park on Saturday 15th March by being presented with an engraved decanter, and something strong and intoxicating to fill it with!, at a celebration evening to commemorate his tenth season at the club. Craig was also presented with his very own No.4 shirt. The night's entertainment included a stint behind the microphone by after dinner speaker Pat Rolink who, despite apparently engaging in a wild goose chase to Broxburn earlier in the evening, went down a storm with a brand of humour refined in such diverse places as 'The Comedy Store' in Leicester Square, 'Jongleurs' in Battersea, 'The Cellar Bar' in Dublin and, indeed, on New York's Broadway…..as well as the Lanarkshire Comedy Festival. Joe Stronach then conducted an auction of football memorabilia that saw some keen bidding for an autographed Airdrie United shirt and several other items that included an autographed Hearts shirt and ball and an autographed Stenhousemuir shirt, bringing the curtain down on an evening that was thoroughly enjoyed by a healthy gathering that included most of the United players and a fair contingent from Craig's home town of Airdrie. Finally, a special mention is due to Mark Campbell's wife, Angie, who put on a buffet spread that even Gordon Ramsay would have been proud of! Thank you Angie. To date Craig has made 248 appearances for the club and has scored 16 times in his ten seasons. Craig was voted Player of the Year in season 2004/05, an honour he deservedly retained at the end of the following season.
