cross cum shot that the unlucky Higgins appeared to divert past his own 'keeper.
With the second half only eight minutes old Campbell almost increased the United lead when surging into the right of the eighteen yard box and onto a Young pass but his shot was deflected wide before he turned provider of the next opportunity only sixty seconds later, setting up McQuillan for an effort that Wilson blocked with his feet. However, within five minutes Blackburn had not only found a deserved second but a third and fourth too, the first of those three goals arriving when a wonderful Chris Marshall pass picked out Cormack on the right and when Wilson saved his angled drive McQUILLAN was on hand to clip the ball home. Next, John DRUMMOND strode forward to thump a twenty two yarder past Wilson and into the bottom left hand corner before, just a minute later, even that was eclipsed in the spectacular stakes, Ross WILLIAMSON opening his goalscoring account for the season with a beauty from similar distance but after coming in off the right. Campbell then almost added his name to the scoresheet when nipping onto a long ball forward and hitting a shot that was deflected into the side netting before James MILDREN was the second of the centre halves to score, heading home Young's pin-point delivery. McQUILLAN then rounded off the scoring with seven minutes remaining, chipping Wilson from all of twenty five yards. But for Wilson's speed off the line moments later McQuillan might have had his hat-trick but the points had been secured much earlier setting the team up for the midweek trip to Musselburgh Athletic in the Quarter Final of the Fife & Lothian's Cup before the all important trip to West Calder United for a game that could secure promotion to the Premier League.

After the set back of the previous week, United went into this game knowing that six points from the three remaining games were still required to guarantee promotion, with all nine on offer required to guarantee the South Division title but in a cautious start it was the visitors who threatened first, McNeil hitting a shot from around twenty yards out narrowly past the left hand upright. However, as matters settled down it was blackburn who controlled both territory and possession and Danny Campbell did well to get clear on the left and set up Fraser Cormack for a side foot effort that was blocked by Higgins. Soon thereafter captain Craig young came close from a quickly worked short corner, curling an effort from the right corner of the box just over the junction of post and bar. The opener, though, was coming and duly arrived in thirty nine minutes, Andy McQuillan bursting clear on the left of the area to hit a
