This hastily arranged friendly to give the United players some extra game time ahead of the real stuff beginning against Crossgates Primrose on Saturday saw Andy McQUILLAN open the scoring after quarter of an hour with a shot across the goalkeeper and then set up Jack McLAREN ten minutes later to double the Blackburn lead. Before the interval McQUILLAN had claimed his own second by stabbing home Danny Campbell's cross after a visiting defender had failed to clear.

Sixty seconds after the resumption another Campbell cross brought a Dean MACARTHUR goal with a neat header and it was also MACARTHUR who claimed the evenings fifth goal moments later when tapping home McQuillan's through ball. When Campbell then picked out Macarthur with a cross field pass his delivery into the box was headed back across goal by Ross Mitchell for Fraser SPENCE to nod home before, with quarter of an hour to go, MACARTHUR was brought down by the Athletic 'keeper for a penalty which he took and duly despatched himself for a second half hat-trick. Three minutes later the visitors grabbed a consolation goal before the scoring was wrapped up by MITCHELL six minutes from time, heading home Campbell's deep cross.
